In November 2018, Inspire sent a clinical trial perceptions research survey to caregiver and patient members with the following conditions: ovarian, colorectal and prostate cancer; scleroderma and sarcoidosis; and psoriasis and arthritis. Over 1600 respondents completed instrument.
Members were asked, “If you were eligible for a clinical trial, how interested would you be in participating?” One “very interested” member explained,
“Scleroderma is a rare autoimmune disease which has no cure, so any research would help the future.”
Another stated,
“I have advanced cardiac sarcoidois and I’m always looking for new ideas/options. I have received extremely good health care and try to give back to the system and to future patients through patient advocacy and research whenever I can.”
A third said,
“Everything that is being done about my arthritis is just kicking the can down the road. I’d love to participate in something that might really help.”
With answers like these, it’s not surprising that linguistic analysis of answers to the survey question, “When you think of clinical trials, what one word comes to mind?” revealed the common theme of “hope.”
Thursday May 16 at 2 p.m. ET, 1 p.m. CT and 11 a.m. PT, Inspire’s hosts a free webinar “A Hopeful Mindset: Patient Insights on Clinical Trials.” Hannah Eccard, Research Manager, will present preliminary analysis of the answers to this survey. Joining her, Seth Rotberg, Partnership Manager at Inspire and rare disease patient advocate will provide his own feedback on these results. Join us then.
